St.George,
Holy high-ranking soldier, lived in about the fourth century A.D.
He
was murdered during the persecution of Christians by Emperor
Diocletianus
in Cappadocia.
According to an
eleventh century legend
St.George had killed
a dragon.
Various
stories exist portraying him as a Knight in Arms with a lance and
Crusaders’
flag,
mounted and in
combat with a dragon. St.
George became the Patron Saint of Knights,
cavalry and the
Boy Scouts
movement.
